the mind is the first line of water safety
About Us
M2O Swim Drowning Prevention Alliance is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (EIN 99-4861294) dedicated to preventing drowning through a mind-first approach to water safety education. Founded by professionals with careers spanning mental health and aquatics, M2O integrates emotional awareness, skill development, community connection, and evidence-based prevention into programs that serve swimmers, families, schools, coaches, lifeguards, veterans, and communities worldwide.
β
We develop and deliver water safety education, community programs, and public health infrastructure that reach the people and places traditional aquatic programs cannot — underserved communities, schools without pools, families without access, and systems without data.
β
M2O Swim Alliance believes drowning is preventable and that the next great advance in water safety begins with the mind. M2O Swim Alliance operates from a principle its founders have tested across years of clinical and aquatic practice: the mind is the first line of water safety.
β

βOn land and in water,
the mind and the body are not separate systems.
Start with the mind.

A swimmer who has learned to regulate their nervous system under stress is more likely to make sound decisions at the water's edge.

A caregiver who is emotionally present is more likely to notice danger before it escalates.

A child who has been taught to recognize fear, and move through it with intention, is a safer swimmer.
Our STRATEGY
The M2O mind-first framework is grounded in the belief that drowning prevention begins in the mind. β
Our four pillars reflect a mindful, integrated approach building mental health awareness, skills, prevention and community to create lasting, life-saving impact in and around water.

Mental Health
We treat the mind as the first line of water safety, cultivating calm, awareness, and confidence through mindfulness. By helping individuals regulate fear and stay present, we create the foundation that makes all other learning effective.

Skills Building
We teach practical, life-saving swim skills grounded in control, breath, and body awareness. Each skill is reinforced through mindful practice so it can be accessed clearly and confidently in critical moments.

Prevention
We focus on stopping drowning before it happens through mindful education, awareness, and early intervention. By integrating presence of mind with skills and community, we reduce risk and save lives.
